LEARN TO WRITE HAIKU

This promises to be an engaging, playful, intuitive    workshop.   Inspired by nature,
we will be spinning images, sounds and feelings into poetry.  These simple three line poems
can become   beautiful personal gifts.  Haiku   can be framed, paired with a drawing, water
color or photo or made into calendars, note cards and even books.
You will learn how to access inner wisdom to gain insight and understanding from
your heart, taking with you skills to cultivate these practices when you leave.
This class is appropriate for ages 12 years and older and is ideal for a
parent and child together.

      Thank you for your question.

Taking wisdom from traditional Haiku, in using Haiku as a form of Meditation, I have taken this to include emotion in addition to sensory grounded experience and seasons. I call this Haiku for Emotional Resource. Sticking to the three lines and the form of seventeen syllables can create a container for expressing feelings very simply, allowing them to surface more naturally. My reason for taking Haiku in this direction is to provide a means for people to experience and express thoughts and feelings without judgment. This can create a doorway to greater awareness. We are part of the natural world. We are organic. We have all kinds of feelings even those we don’t like. Let’s make room for our feelings. Locking them away causes more difficulty.

We will also be covering traditional Haiku using season references and cutting techniques.
